How CheshireCat works.
What happens to your money, what's public, and what to check before you send. Plain words first, with the technical detail alongside.
01 / Overview
Overview
CheshireCat is a non-custodial interface for crypto swaps on NEAR Intents. You choose what to send and where it should land, send the deposit from your own wallet or an exchange, and NEAR Intents pays the address you chose.
- 35 networks. Swap between tokens on the same network or across networks.
- No wallet connection and no account. You never sign anything on this site.
- Never holds your funds. CheshireCat has no wallets and no private keys.
- No fee from us. We don't add a fee to the quote.
- Built on NEAR Intents. Every swap is quoted and carried out through NEAR Intents' 1Click API.
- Not a privacy tool. Swaps are public. See What's public.
02 / How a swap works
How a swap works
- 1
Choose and see the quote
Pick the token you send and the token you want, and enter an amount. We ask NEAR Intents' 1Click API for a dry-run quote: the estimated amount you'll receive, a minimum and an estimated time. A dry run uses stand-in addresses and creates no order.
- 2
Add your addresses
Paste the receiving address and a refund address on the network you send from. Each is checked against that network's address format, and its checksum where the format has one.
- 3
Review and create the order
We request a real quote for your exact addresses. NEAR Intents issues a deposit address for this order (plus a memo on Stellar) and signs the quote. We verify that signature and that it matches your request, then save the order. If the new estimate is below the minimum you reviewed, you're asked to check the new quote first.
- 4
Send the deposit
Send exactly the amount shown, from your own wallet or an exchange, to the deposit address on your order page, before the deadline.
- 5
Track it
While the order page is open, it checks for updates every few seconds and shows each step NEAR Intents reports. Keep the page's link: it's how you get back to the order.
03 / Swap, Multiswap and Send
Swap, Multiswap and Send
Swap turns one token into another, on the same network or across networks. The payout goes to the address you enter.
Multiswap pays up to 20 recipients from one form, from one token to one token. Give each recipient a custom amount, or the same amount for everyone. Every recipient is a separate order (a “leg”) with its own deposit address, so you send one deposit per leg. Each leg runs on its own: one can complete while another is refunded.
Every recipient is validated before any deposit address is requested. If any leg fails, no order is saved and no deposit address is shown, so you never end up with half a batch.
Send pays someone in the same token, on the same network. You send the deposit, and NEAR Intents pays their address.
04 / What's public
What's public
CheshireCat doesn't hide who paid whom. Assume that anyone can connect your deposit to the payout.
- Your deposit, from your wallet to a NEAR Intents deposit address, is public on the network you send from.
- The payout, from NEAR Intents to the receiving address, is public on the network it lands on.
- The swap itself. NEAR Intents' public explorer lists swaps with the sending and receiving addresses, the amounts and the transactions, and can be searched by deposit address.
- NEAR Intents receives your receiving and refund addresses to carry out the order.
- No confidential mode. NEAR Intents' quote API treats swaps as public by default and has an optional confidential mode. CheshireCat doesn't request it.
- CheshireCat stores each order to show its progress. See Your data.
05 / How NEAR Intents runs it
How NEAR Intents runs it
Every order is a NEAR Intents 1Click swap. 1Click is NEAR Intents' API for swaps between networks: it returns a quote with a deposit address on the network you send from. Once your deposit arrives, NEAR Intents carries out the swap and pays the receiving address on the destination network. Refunds go to your refund address.
What this isn't. CheshireCat isn't a mixer and doesn't pool anyone's funds. It doesn't run a privacy pool or a zero-knowledge system of its own. It's an interface to NEAR Intents.
06 / Quotes, minimums and refunds
Quotes, minimums and refunds
- Estimates. A quote is NEAR Intents' estimate at that moment. Prices move, so the final amount can differ.
- Minimum. Every quote includes a minimum amount out, which NEAR Intents works out from the 1% slippage limit we send with each request.
- Refunds. When NEAR Intents refunds an order, the deposit goes back to your refund address, on the network you sent from. Use an address you control, not an exchange deposit address.
- Route minimums. NEAR Intents sets a minimum amount for some routes. The app tells you when an amount is below it.
- No route. When NEAR Intents has no route for a pair, the app says so and no order is created.
07 / Making the deposit
Making the deposit
- Send the exact amount shown on your order page. If less arrives, NEAR Intents refunds it by the deadline; if more arrives, it refunds the excess after the swap. Sending from an exchange? Make sure its withdrawal fee doesn't come out of that amount.
- Right token, right network. Send only the token and network shown. Anything else sent to the address can be lost.
- Before the deadline. The order page counts down to the deadline we set with NEAR Intents for this order: 1 hour, or 3 hours on networks with slow confirmations such as Bitcoin. NEAR Intents starts refunding swaps that haven't completed by then, so after it, don't send anything: start a new order.
- Memos. Stellar deposits are identified by a memo, which the order page shows. Without it, the deposit may not be matched to your order.
- One order, one address. Each deposit address is for its own order only. Never reuse it.
- Check after pasting. The deposit address is shown with its first and last characters highlighted. After pasting it into your wallet, check they match. Clipboard malware can swap addresses.
08 / Order statuses
Order statuses
- Waiting for deposit
- The order exists and its deposit address is ready. Nothing has arrived yet.
- Deposit detected
- NEAR Intents has seen your deposit. If it's smaller than quoted, the page says so.
- Processing
- NEAR Intents is carrying out the swap.
- Complete
- NEAR Intents reports the payout as sent to the receiving address. The page lists the transactions it reports.
- Refunded
- NEAR Intents couldn't complete the swap and refunded the deposit to your refund address. The reason is shown when NEAR Intents gives one.
- Failed
- NEAR Intents reported a failure. See Getting help below, with your deposit address.
- Deposit window closed
- The deadline passed with no deposit. Don't send anything to this address: start a new order.
Each quote comes with NEAR Intents' time estimate. It's only an estimate: slow deposit confirmations or busy networks can make an order take longer.
09 / Networks and addresses
Networks and addresses
CheshireCat supports 35 networks: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Base, Arbitrum, BNB Chain, Tron, TON, XRP Ledger, Dogecoin, Litecoin, Zcash, NEAR, Sui, Aptos, Cardano, Stellar, Optimism, Polygon, Avalanche, Bitcoin Cash, Dash, Gnosis, Berachain, Scroll, Monad, X Layer, Plasma, Starknet, Aleo, Movement, Hyperliquid, Fogo, Robinhood Chain, ADI Chain.
- Every address is checked against its network's format, and its checksum where the format has one, before an order is created. This catches typos and wrong-network addresses, but can't tell whether an address is the one you meant.
- Zcash uses transparent addresses.
- XRP Ledger: if the receiving address needs a destination tag, use its X-address, which includes the tag.
- TON and Stellar: there's no field for a receiving memo, so don't use an exchange deposit address that requires one.
10 / Fees
Fees
CheshireCat adds no fee: we don't add one to the quote request. The amount you receive is quoted by NEAR Intents and is an estimate until the swap completes. Your own wallet or exchange may charge a fee to send the deposit.
11 / Custody and security
Custody and security
- No custody. CheshireCat has no wallets and no private keys, and never signs a transaction. An automated check runs on every change and fails if wallet libraries, key handling or transaction signing appear in the code.
- Signed deposit addresses. NEAR Intents signs every quote. CheshireCat verifies that signature, and checks that the signed request carries your exact recipient, refund address, tokens and amount. Otherwise no order is created.
- Sanity checks. An order is only saved when the deposit address returned is present and differs from both of your addresses.
- A locked-down page. The site's Content Security Policy tells your browser to run only scripts that carry a fresh one-time code (a nonce), and not to let other sites show this one in a frame.
- Nothing to approve. With no wallet connection, there are no token approvals and no pop-ups to sign.
12 / Staying safe
Staying safe
- CheshireCat never DMs anyone and never asks for a recovery phrase or private key.
- There's no wallet to connect. Anyone asking you to “connect”, “verify” or “sync” a wallet for CheshireCat isn't us.
- The only site is cheshirecat.app. Check the address bar. A deposit address only ever appears on your own order page there.
13 / Your data
Your data
- No accounts, email or analytics. Scripts, logos and fonts are served from cheshirecat.app itself, and the site's Content Security Policy only lets your browser load images and fonts from it and connect to it.
- Orders. We store what's needed to show an order's progress: the tokens, amounts, addresses, deposit address, status, transaction links and NEAR Intents' signed quote. Every order is deleted from our database within 30 days of being created.
- My orders is kept in your own browser's storage, not on our server. Clearing your browser data clears it.
- NEAR Intents processes the addresses and amounts needed to run each swap, and its explorer shows them publicly.
14 / Compliance
Compliance
- Receiving and refund addresses are checked against the US Treasury's OFAC sanctions list, and listed addresses are refused. If the list can't be loaded, new orders pause until it can.
- CheshireCat may be unavailable in some countries.
- You're responsible for following the law where you live. Nothing on this site is financial, legal or tax advice.
15 / When something goes wrong
When something goes wrong
- I sent less than shown. The order page says so. NEAR Intents refunds a deposit below the quoted amount to your refund address by the deadline.
- I sent more than shown. NEAR Intents refunds the excess to your refund address after the swap completes.
- The deadline passed. Don't send anything more to that address. If you already did, get help (below) with the deposit address and your transaction.
- I sent the wrong token or network. Funds sent this way can be lost. Get help with the deposit address and your transaction as soon as possible.
- It's taking a while. Deposits need network confirmations before the swap can start, and some networks take longer than others. The order page shows which step it's on.
16 / Getting help
Getting help
CheshireCat can't move or refund funds: NEAR Intents carries out every order, and looks orders up by their deposit address. You can follow an order yourself by searching its deposit address on the NEAR Intents explorer. NEAR Intents' documentation links to its Telegram community.
Never share your recovery phrase or private key with anyone, including anyone claiming to be support. For news, follow @cheshirecatapp on X.
